    What is hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is the name given to uneven patches of skin that have become darker than the areas around them. These dark spots occur when the skin produces excess melanin (pigment) and it can be triggered by multiple factors including sun exposure, ageing, hormonal changes and even irritation.

    How do anti-pigmentation serums work?

Anti-pigmentation serums work in two main ways. Firstly, they contain ingredients that reduce the rate in which melanin (aka pigment) is produced and/or transferred to your skin cells. Secondly, they contain ingredients that encourage cell turnover to remove old pigmented patches and overall brightening ingredients to encourage smoother, more even tone overall.

How long does it take to see results with anti-pigmentation serums?

Pigmentation can take a little while to shift, so you do need to be consistent and patient when using anti-pigmentation serums. For formulas that contain vitamin C and/or niacinamide you should start to see results within eight weeks, although gentler formulas will take longer.
